Yesterday I spent the day attending a mushroom foraging course with the Lavistown House. When I registered for the course a few months back I saw it as a two-fold opportunity. On the one hand, it would be an opportunity to spend the day in the forest here in Ireland. And on the other, it would be an opportunity to spend some time with a small group of like-minded folks. It was indeed both.
The day and the woods were unspeakably beautiful. I've done a fair amount of walking on this trip and have therefore spent a good amount of time out in nature, but the foraging offered an opportunity to get off the trail and go a little deeper, into the brambles, amongst the trees for something closer to a meander than a walk.
I didn't gather many mushrooms, but I took a good few photographs and I gathered loads of the peaceful easy feelings I always seem to find when spending time amongst the trees.
Today is my last full day here in Kilkenny. Tomorrow I will take a train to Dublin and fly home on Tuesday. In some ways I am ready to be home; I miss my dogs and I miss cooking. In other ways, I am not at all ready for this journey to be over. And perhaps in some ways the journey isn't over at all, perhaps it has only just begun...
